Psalm 91:1—He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
You dwell in the secret place of the Most High by reading His word, praying, listening to His voice, obeying Him, living a life of holiness and committing all your ways unto Him. Once you do this, firstly, you shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty, that is, you will have a covering, you will be shielded from whatever isn’t allowed by God to come your way.
Psalm 91:2—I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
Once you are dwelling in the secret place of the Most High, you can confidently say that He is your refuge and your fortress. God is only a refuge to those who are His own, He defends only those who call upon His name. In addition, it is only when you dwell in the secret place of the Most High that you learn to trust Him. Your faith is only built by consistent fellowship with God, it is how you learn that He is always your first point of call, it is how you learn to rely solely on Him.
Psalm 91:3—Surely He will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
The truth is this life is not a smooth ride, challenges will arise, the devil will continuously make attempts to trip you, to make you turn away from God but God has promised that He will deliver you provided you dwell in His secret place.
Psalm 91:4—He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
With God as your shield, you have nothing to worry about. He is the best covering you can think of, the only impenetrable one. Remember, if God be for you who can stand against you? Certainly no one! You are safe and secure in Him.
Psalm 91:5-6—Thou shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day. Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Why? Because you serve the omnipresent God and the One that never sleeps nor slumbers. And He's always watching over you. Remember, if God be with you, whom shall you fear? Certainly no one!
Psalm 91:7—A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
No matter how much the devil throws your way, no matter how much he troubles the waters, in spite of all his devices, none shall harm you—your ship may be tossed around or even end up getting wrecked but you will be safe.
Psalm 91:8— Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
You will see but you will never partake of the evil that will come upon those who are not in God. You will see so that it would serve as a testimony and reminder to you, that it pays to serve God. The wicked may seem to flourish and prosper but their end will be destruction.
Psalm 91:9-10—Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
Because you have taken up with God, no form of evil will come upon you, sicknesses, diseases, infirmities, pandemics, epidemics will come and ravage the world but none will come near you. You will hear about them and probably know people who are suffering from them but you will be sound and healthy.
Psalm 91:11-12—For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Because you’re in God, He will set you on the right path and He will guide you through. Whenever you are confused as to what to do you will hear a voice telling you the way to walk in. In Him, you will not fall and when you stumble, His angels are there to set you aright.
Psalm 91:13—Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Haha! In God you are a fearless champion. You have power and authority to wrestle against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. Not only will you wrestle against them, you will also prevail against them because with God, they’re no match for you. Hallelujah!
Psalm 91:14—Because he hath his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My name.
Because you love God, He will deliver you at all times and you will always be the head, always be on top, and the sky will just be your starting point.
Psalm 91:15—He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
Because you’re in God, His ears will always be attuned to your voice so when you pray, He will answer, when you ask He will give to you and when you knock He shall open the door unto you. In your time of need, when it seems like all hope is lost, He will deliver you. In the midst of many, He will pick you out to honour you, He will set you apart from your peers and excel you. Among your contemporaries, you will be outstanding.
Psalm 91:16—With long life will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation.
In God, not only are you guaranteed a full life here on earth, but most importantly, eternal life is yours. You are guaranteed a place with the King of kings and Lord of lords. What a marvelous God we serve!
