Psalm 24 verse 1:

“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” 

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And without any controversy, He owns the earth and its fullness. For if He created it, it solely belongs to Him. Also, not only is the earth the Lord’s, but even the world, the whole system of the earth and its glory belong to Him including those that inhabit it. 

However, later on after creation, the Creator and Owner of the earth was seen benevolently willing the whole sphere of earth to man. Genesis 1 verse 28 says:

“God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and FILL THE EARTH, AND SUBDUE IT; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” 

And Psalms 115 verse 16 explicitly corroborates it and says:

“The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, BUT THE EARTH HE HAS GIVEN TO THE SONS OF MEN.” 

So it was the will and the desire of God for man to inherit the earth. It is the will of God that while He rules in heaven, man through his submission to God rules on earth, thus bringing His kingdom to the earth that His will might be done on earth just as it is in the heavens. 

However, the devil, the opposer of the will of God came in to tempt the man to disobey God and obey him instead. The man, not knowing he was periling the sphere given to him, obeyed the devil and ceded the earth to him. By obeying him, he brought himself under the authority of the devil and everything God has given him with himself were now belonging to the devil. The scriptures say in Romans 6 verse 16 that "when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness”. So the man lost himself and the entire earth God has ordained Him to rule on His behalf to the enemy and the ordination of God was temporarily changed.

Many do not know that it was originally ordained for them to inherit the earth and that what the devil claims he is offering them was destined to be theirs. Ignorance is a most powerful weapon in the hands of the devil. As a creature of darkness that he is, he casts some darkness on the mind of people so they will not know what belongs to them. This he has done to a very great degree in the lives of people that even when they come into Christ, it takes years of dealings for this veil to be torn that they may see what God has freely given to them.Through this, the devil is able to steal away what is even the inheritance of the saints, or at least, prevent them from  entering into it, thus depriving them of the riches of the Father in Christ Jesus.

More than once did the apostle accost the Roman Christians with the question, “Know yẹ not…?”  and to the Corinthian Christians that “He would not have them ignorant”. For he knew how limited they would be and short changed if they were ignorant.

Quite a few Christians are aware and walk in the awareness of the reality that their Father owns the world and had also given it to them. It is true that the devil is the god and prince of this world. For he became that when the first man Adam yielded to the serpent in the garden, and ceded his sphere of influence to the devil.

 

But when the last Adam came and the devil approached Him, demanding for a worship that would be recompensed to Him with the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them all, Jesus, unlike the first Adam, rejected the way of the devil and went rather for the will of God, which was the cross.

He hanged on the cross, in a rather shameful manner. Aspersions were cast upon Him. Even His very friends whom He had supported spiritually and physically abandoned Him. He was even forsaken by His Father. He was rejected by all. But then, He was only righteously reconciling the world to the Father. 

He yielded up the ghost and after three days, as He had prophesied, He rose from the dead without the help of any human agent, having spoilt principalities and powers, making a show of them openly and triumphing over them. He completely and totally plundered the devil, stripped him off of his authority, annihilated him and recovered everything he has stolen from man. 

So, immediately He resurrected, He met with His disciples in Galilee and gave them the whole world. He emphatically and authoritatively, with all assurance, said: “GO YE INTO ALL THE  WORLD.” (Mark 16 verse 15). 

Hallelujah! Jesus has restored the world man lost to the Father. And amazingly, He has also mercifully willed it again to man who first lost it. 

By sending His believers into the world, He is saying they should take the world and its glory and inhabitants for Him. And as many who also follow the way of the cross and become overcomers in this age will not only inherit this world but also become rulers in the worlds to come. For they will completely inherit everything of their Father. For the scriptures say: “And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations – worlds – and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Revelation 2 verse 26 and 27;  revelation 21 verse 7).
